Youth Advisory Council

To develop leadership skills in students and foster opportunities to deepen their connectedness to their community.

The Youth Advisory Council (YAC) is compiled of high school students who attend schools in District 211 who are interested in creating opportunities for positive youth development in their community. YAC meetings take place once a month and are planned and led by youth with the support of the Community Collaboration and Public Resource Development staff from the Kenneth Young Center.

The YAC participates in the decisions and activities of the Communities for Positive Youth Development (CPYD) Coalition, while also planning community engagement activities throughout the school year (August-May) and activities for SAMHSA’s National Prevention Week. The goal with the YAC is to ensure a diverse youth perspective and engagement in the community, while also earning Harper Promise and community service hours for school.

YAC meetings take place on the first and third Wednesday of each month from 6:00-8:00 PM at

the Kenneth Young Algonquin Road office, 650 E. Algonquin Rd., Ste., 104, Schaumburg, IL 60173.
