Community Navigation Recovery Coach

Contractual position

Kenneth Young Center Community Navigation Recovery Coaches role is to support others in recovery from a substance use, mental health or co-occurring disorder. The CNRC will serve as a role model, mentor, advocate and motivator to recovering individuals in order to help prevent reoccurrence of symptoms and increase quality of life. The CNRC must demonstrate an ability to share personal recovery experiences and to develop authentic peer-to-peer relationships.

 

CNRCs primarily reach out to, and work with, Kenneth Young Center program participants and their families with hope, care and the concept that recovery is possible and provide assistance when a desire for recovery is indicated.

 

Qualifications 

  • Certificate of completion of the 30 hr CCAR Recovery Coach Academy©. 

  • Certificate of completion or in process of CCAR Ethical Considerations for Recovery Coaches© 

  • Certificate of completion or in process of CCAR Recovery Coaching and Professionalism™

  • CCAR Recovery Coach Professional (RCP) designation or in process to earn designation. 

  • Experience or willingness to work with the addiction and mental health recovery process. 

  • Understanding of medication-assisted recovery and practices.  

  • Capability of building an effective relationship. 

  • Demonstrated skill in actively listening, asking good questions, awareness of self and treating people as resources.   

  • Understanding of and ability to maintain appropriate boundaries.   

  • Availability to work different shifts as necessary. 

  • Cross-cultural skills, and experience with culturally diverse populations.  

  • Bilingual abilities are a plus.  

  • Strong customer service ethic essential.   

  

Duties and Responsibilities:                                   

  • Facilitate timely referrals and placements to treatment/recovery support providers.   

  • Provide recovery education to service recipients for every phase of the recovery journey from pre-recovery engagement, recovery initiation, recovery stabilization, and sustained recovery maintenance.

  • Facilitate (via personal coaching) the transition from a professionally directed service plan to a self-directed Recovery Plan. The goal should be to transition from professionally assisted recovery initiation to personally directed, community supported recovery maintenance.

  • Connect recoveree to a larger community of care.   

  • Follow up recovery coaching with recoverees as requested. 

  • Educate and assist family members as requested. 

  • Serve as a recovery ambassador through developing relationships with community groups/agencies in partnership with others in the agency.

  • Visit community resources with recovering persons to assist them in becoming familiar with potential opportunities.

  • Participate in ongoing training, education and performance support related to the field of Recovery Coaching and Peer Services.

  • Participate in Kenneth Young Center specific training (fire/general safety, OSHA, blood borne pathogens,   infection control, CPR, AED, hazardous materials, HIPPA , etc.) 

  • Report writing, record keeping as required by Kenneth Young Center.

  • Maintain contact by phone and/or e-mail with recovering person after they leave the program to ensure their ongoing success and to provide re-engagement support in partnership with others in the agency if needed.
