Community Programs

Our many causes are supported by local, state, and federal grants, as well as foundations.

We serve all members of our community!

Drug Free Communities Grant

The Drug-Free Communities (DFC) Support Program is a federal initiative designed to help communities mobilize and prevent substance use among youth. It provides grant awards to local anti-drug coalitions nationwide.

The Communities for Positive Youth Development (CPYD) Coalition, founded in 2014, serves the communities of Schaumburg and Palatine through the Drug-Free Communities program. We prevent youth e-cigarette, marijuana, and opioid use by engaging youth in healthy activities and building strong community connections. We have experienced declines in all substance use since receiving the grant. Although rates increased in some areas during the COVID-19 pandemic, our most recent data (2024) show rates lower than those recorded before the COVID-19 outbreak.

Recognized nationally as a CADCA Blue Ribbon and 2024 Coalition of Excellence awardee, CPYD is a youth-driven and community-led organization. Our Intertribal Youth Advisory Council launched at CADCA’s Midyear Conference, showcasing our commitment to Indigenous youth leadership and sustainable, evidence-based prevention.

A ROSC is a coordinated network of community-based services and supports. Person-centered, building on the strengths and resilience of individuals and communities.Focus: Recovery, wellness, quality of life for those impacted by substance use or co-occurring conditions.

The purpose of the Indigenous ROSC is to establish a coordinated network of Indigenous-centered recovery support services.

Our objectives are to:

• Promote Indigenous healing practices and pathways to recovery

• Reduce stigma surrounding traditional healing and recovery

• Strengthen community through collaboration and cultural knowledge
